Sri Lankan Sonali Peiris is proud of her heritage – so much so she is in the process of organizing a 14-day tour of Sri Lankan regional areas for 16 people that will include a chauffeur driven car to seven destinations with five-star accommodation.
However, the real tour attraction is the master cooking class, run at six of the destinations by the head chef of each venue –not surprising given Sonali’s promotion of her Hallam-based Sri Lankan herbs and spices business Miris Products, now in its seventh year and which already has won multiple awards.
What began as a home business (Miris means chilli in Sinhalese) quickly grew to include traditional Sri Lankan breakfast, lunch and dinner cooking classes for interested people over winter at commercial kitchens in Bentleigh and Dingley.
The response to both the product line and cooking classes has been overwhelming and, through her website, Sonali now has a strong customer base throughout Australia.
The tour idea, known as Miris Trails, grew from the expanding public interest in both the Sri Lankan products and cooking classes.
Tour dates are from September 2 to 16 and participants will be met at Colombo Airport and taken to the nearby international tourist resort at Negombo for a special dinner before visiting six other locations over the two weeks.
