September 2013 Culinary Tour
Fiona... "My friend and l were looking for a culinary tour with a difference and we were not disappointed . Sonali’s organization and attention to detail was excellent. We had the most amazing experience, each day was fabulous. We did not want to come home ,and will definitely be going again with Sonali. Sri Lanka is an unspoiled destination and so welcoming to travelers. We have been cooking constantly since our return."
Sue... "Wow, what a trip. This would have to be one of the best trips I have ever had. Sri Lanka is the best kept secret in the world and has so much to see and do, so much more than that what I anticipated. The cooking was fantastic but we did so much more than cooking. My friend and I decided to do all of the optional activities, and even some that weren’t on the itinerary such as the Geoffrey Bawa retreat and gardens. Every day was a new adventure and at each destination we didn’t think it could get any better, but guess what, it did. The accommodation was absolutely first class and Sonali and Vasee were wonderful hosts and could not have been kinder. Having our own car and driver was fantastic and definitely the way to go. We were thoroughly spoilt with the cooking side and well looked after so there was no need to be nervous, which I was on the first day. I would love to do another trip with Sonali and have no doubt will do so in the next couple of years."

"We were totally looked after on the Miris Trails tour from the moment we decided to book . Sonali helped us with visas, extra hotel bookings and transfers to the start at Negombo. Sonali also made contact to make sure everything had gone to plan. Our lovely guide picked us up in a comfortable Toyota from our hotel in Colombo Shantha our guide was welcoming and a wonderful source of knowledge and practical advice. It was a luxury having your own guide and vehicle for the tour. Shantha always having the air conditioner on as we emerged from hours of sightseeing. It was also convenient to make arrangements with him if we wanted to change the schedule slightly or stop for those inevitable photo stops. Shantha was more of a guide than a driver as he could spot wildlife from afar and answer ever question relating to the historical and cultural significance of the sights. The hotels were superb they were mostly open plan with excellent facilities and fantastic service. My favourite hotel was Vil Uyana at Sigriya I loved having our own plunge pool and the dining facilities were extraordinary. The hotel and its surrounds were fully planned it felt very modern but very sympathetic to the culture. I liked the variety in the activities safaris, village walks, boat rides, snorkeling, temple visits, tea picking, shopping and countryside viewing. There was not too much of anything as you could determine what you wanted to do. The cooking sessions were fabulous as we each had our own chef plus the head chef giving us advice. We picked up lots of techniques I know I always learnt something from every dish." |
