Sue and Jim Lowe

Hi Sonali,

I just wanted to give you some feedback on our Culinary tour to Sri Lanka,
Jim and I had a wonderful time. Clearly you had spent a lot of time in the planning, yet were so flexible in adding or modifying activities as needed.
The cooking classes were an absolute highlight with everyone eagerly anticipating the wonderful goodies we were going to create. A great deal of work went into providing the opportunity for everyone to cook their own dishes, sometimes in the open air and on other occasions undercover but outdoors. No hot, stifling kitchens. And at most resorts to have the head chef and senior kitchen staff on hand to advise us through the process was fantastic.
It was really interesting to see how the finished product varied so much depending on the couple cooking, some who couldn’t get the food spicy enough and others of us who preferred a little less heat, a great opportunity to taste the difference too.It was great that the recipes were not too challenging so we all had fun.  I have enjoyed experimenting again once we came home.
The visit to the wholesale fish and vegetable markets gave us an insight into the real Sri Lanka something we would not have experienced had we done a standard tour, yet we still managed to see all the normal tourist attractions as well. Our drivers were fabulous, giving us a running commentary on the life of a Sri Lankan family and valuable insights into the areas we visited. It was great we fitted in a couple of games of golf also and our drivers went out of their way to make sure we got there and back in a timely manner. It was wonderful to have the air conditioned comfort that a car provides as the weather was really hot.
Accomodation was absolutely first class, the rooms were immaculate and we were so fortunate that so many of the hotels  and staff went out of their way to welcome us and cook up special dinners. We were so spoilt.
Thank you for organising a wonderful trip. We will have many happy memories and feel that having added the culinary aspect to a tour of Sri Lanka just completed the picture for us. We also felt we had hit the jackpot with the other 8 tour group members who with you and Vasi were fabulous to travel with.
With great fondness
Sue

Miris Trails kicks off culinary tour at Jetwing Beach

December 11, 2013December 11, 2013
The first session of the Cookery Class organized by Miris Trails, in alliance with Sri Lanka Tailor-Made (Jetwing Travels) kicked off on a spectacular note. The nature of the tour is primarily to cater to a discerning group of food lovers who will be staying at some of the finest hotels in the Sri Lanka, transferred across by personal chauffeur driven cars. The guests were warmly welcomed with garlands by the staff at Jetwing Beach, Negombo on the 02nd of September where they spent the evening in fellowship over dinner. The early morning visit on the 03rd September showcased sights of busy fishermen bringing to shore their catch; this served a good opportunity for our guests to purchase sea food for the cookery class that was to commence later that day. read more ->

‘Miris Trail’ experience for eight Australian couples

December 10, 2013December 10, 2013
A Sri Lankan entrepreneur based in Australia, hard on the heels of the new era of incentive travel and ‘enjoying an experience’, is organising the ‘Miris Trail’ – a culinary tour of the island for just eight couples. It is not enjoying lunu miris or kochchi miris in the real sense of the w ord but Sonali Peiris, director and founder of ‘Miris’, an organisation that produces a range of gourmet Sri Lankan condiments, says “this tour is designed for the gourmet traveler and is an evolution of the experience that I have tried to create with my range of products.” The luxury culinary tour of Sri Lanka combines the ‘joy of cooking with the pleasure of luxury travel’, according to an official statement by the organisers. Miris Trails’ inaugural tour to Sri Lanka is from 2nd to 16th September and involves some of Sri Lanka’s best chefs who w ill conduct six days of cooking classes at exotic locations across the island.   read more ->

Cooking classes in Sri Lanka

December 10, 2013
Sri Lankan Sonali Peiris is proud of her heritage – so much so she is in the process of organizing a 14-day tour of Sri Lankan regional areas for 16 people that will include a chauffeur driven car to seven destinations with five-star accommodation. However, the real tour attraction is the master cooking class, run at six of the destinations by the head chef of each venue –not surprising given Sonali’s promotion of her Hallam-based Sri Lankan herbs and spices business Miris Products, now in its seventh year and which already has won multiple awards.     read more ->
